Not subscribing to the view that the Mclaren was significantly quicker than the RB. Qualy time was .02 different so in ultimate pace they were pretty even. Max was good in the first few laps because he got track position and was able to build a lead due to George being slower and holding Lando up. Obviously Lando didn’t do a great job at the start (a bit of a trend we’ve noticed - needs sorting) and for some reason didn’t go banzai in the first few laps to either pass Max or at least get George quickly. My view is that the team made the wrong decision on the first pitch stop timing for Lando. Some tracks are track position limited and so I was calling for them to bring lando in early to undercut and at least pass George if not max as well. They claim the Mclaren is really good on tyre wear so a longer second stint on the mediums should have been possible. Then match Max at the second stop and see what happened after that. I don’t think he’d have been coming out 9 seconds down with cars to pass under this strategy. The fact he was catching Max was mainly due to Max managing pace as he had a buffer. I feel McLaren haven’t really come to terms with them having a genuine race winning car on pace alone if they get the strategy right. So poor driving by Lando in the first few laps and a poor strategy cost them a real opportunity to win.

Norris want to fight max, thats what cost him the race.he should not hve try to block max,by doing it he open the door for russel and max still stay second,he was driver lap after lap behind russel.when max got the message that he may only hv one chance to past russel and thats is most like nw,he pull the over of and befor the 3 corner he had a 1 sec lead on russel, meaning russel could not use his drs and atrack him

I like your channel and watch all of your post race analysis and will continue to do so, but your comment on Carlos sainz was uncalled for. It was very rude of you. Who are you to tell how Carlos should decide his career? It’s very easy to give comments on everything from afar, but it’s very different when you are deep in that situation and your career is at stake. Maybe you would have made a quick decision but not everyone is same. Yes, Mercedes told Carlos to look elsewhere, but as long as the 2nd seat is not confirmed then there is still a chance. Things will be more easy for him once the Mercedes spot is decided but that may take too long and Carlos may not want to that long and keep others team waiting, but the decision is still his. But you have no right to complain. Comment but don’t complain or demand what others should do. If you don’t like your job then there is also an option for you.

I agree with the views here concerning the Mclaren, they have a competitive car but they are yet to learn to deliver consistently, this is the major difference between them and redbull. I have been saying this to whoever cares to listen. Winning is an art and skill that they Mclaren as a team need to develop. Redbull knows how to win big moments and manage races....every department is locked in. At the highest levels, it's the tiny details that count the most. The pecking order is now Redbull and Mclaren then the Merc and Ferrari a bit behind. In fact Max was almost 18 seconds ahead of the closest mercedes and 22 over ferrari so I don't know how much of a leap they've made aside from Mclaren.

When supposedly experts aren't realistic about the sport, no wonder fans are starting to demand unrealistic racing. F1 is & has been a race data & margins, this is not a sport where you should be expecting last lap shootouts, it's what sets the sport apart from other racing sport. While McLaren may have the "fastest" car on the grid, they are not in control. In the final stint, you could see Norris charge towards Verstappen, in an attempt to mimic the last few races. You could say that Norris believes a bit too much in the car. This is where Verstappen's experience shines - he may not have been the fastest, but he did manage his tyres the best. Some may say that Norris would've caught up to Verstappen easily - but I'm not convinced on that. The issue is that when Verstappen does stable sectors and laptimes, you know that he is managing the tires. I have no doubt that at the end of the race, he still had a few push laps in the tyres if Norris' car was faster overall. So, a very impatient race for Norris and a stable race for Verstappen. The similarity between them is that their teammates are nowhere close to them.

Had a bit of overtake drama, ham vs sainz ..lec vs Sainz. Had the strat upset/mistakes that swapped the Ferrari and Mercedes drivers around.. And then a bit tension to the end of Lando could still win...just a bit... But the rest of the race already warrants a 7. If you like F1 objectively ( instead of judging a race on preferred outcome)

Why does this host act like Carlos owes him an explanation or resolution? You as the media are the ones who are continuing to clickbait this story unnecessarily, while he is making a decision to determine his career legacy. Your 'fed up' feelings on the matter are irrelevant.

True! Some of these F1 reporters and F1 content creators are becoming too comfortable in their "success". They need to know their place. They should be critical, but never entitled.

I think you guys continue to make up these stories about how McLaren have the fastest car. I don't believe for one second that McLaren have the fastest car on the grid. The McLaren is either neck and neck with the RBR or the RBR is ahead. Norris can out qualify Verstappen for me it doesn't mean much, but in race trim RBR looks great. I honestly think because of the great strides McLaren have made which no one expects, people are now creating these headlines to make it seem like Max is the underdog, he is not the underdog. If the McLaren is indeed faster, it would have caught up to Max's Red Bull on a track like Spain, it didn't in 66 laps without any safety cars. RBR remains the car to beat, they are still ahead though not by much.

ITs a very simplistic way to talk about it for sure - over a race difference, perhaps the Mclaren did edge it, but that isnt everything in a race. The Red Bull still has characteristics that make it a tough opponent, even if its overall pace isnt the top.

@@mutleyeng exactly the point i was trying to make, i don't necessarily agree with this theory that the Mclaren is the best car on the grid yet. i think they are neck and neck.

The McLaren car was 100% the FASTEST car on track. And started from pole position. They should have won the race by a mile. It's just that McLaren doesn't have a Max Verstappen behind the wheel. Instead they have a Max Verstappen racing against them even in a slower car. And that is what cost them the victory: the Max factor.

It's been 15 years since refuelling got banned, and teams somehow still think overcuts work. Not only did Lando bottle it at the start, but his team put him on a horrendous strategy of leaving him out there on worn out tyres for far too long.

Just remember, this does not mean 2025 will be closer... We hoped so in 2019 after the 18 season yet mercedes took a leap... i recall Frentzen in 99 has being hyped for his performances and race wins, and after that never came close to a podium again... same as Jacques after 97... never won again... look at riccardo... so dont just hink cause Lando is doing well its a foregone conclusion he's up there for good now. Imagine if max goes to mercedes and they again have a dominant car...
